No foundation ‘rigged’ claims
Donald Trump has been predicting a “rigged” election that will steal victory from him for several months. Lately, he has increased the frequency and volume of these claims. This is bad for America and downright un-American.
There is no foundation for his claims. Elections in America are run at the county level, so any effort to rig a national election would have to involve hundreds, if not thousands, of people of all political persuasions. The security and legitimacy of our voting system has been studied for many years by many different people, and there has never been any evidence found of wide-spread fraud. Is our system perfect? Of course not. Is it even remotely possible that the election is being rigged to steal victory from Donald Trump. Of course not.
The problem is that, unlike other untruths told during political campaigns, this one directly undermines the perceived legitimacy of our government. Democratic government is nothing more than a collective, often unspoken, agreement on how to run our society, and undermining the foundations of that agreement is serious and damaging.
Donald Trump’s supporters need to raise their voices together and call on him to stop damaging our democracy.
