Responsible reporting needed

Recent observations of Spokane have been very confusing and disgusting. There’s disturbing news about the mayor, the City Council, a fired police chief, an appointed police chief, demotions, sexual accusations, unwanted transfers, and above all, everyone is suing every one else.

Now in today’s (Aug. 19) Spokesman-Review front page news, Ben Stuckart says that he won’t vote for Meidl because of the method of appointment without any other rationale of his attributes or qualifications. Duh. That kind of thinking must only be political. Also on the front page Shawn Vestal says, “Stuckart takes issue with process, not politics.” Duh. Does he mean that it ain’t so because he says so?

We now have a couple of problems here. What do we do for responsible government? And, what do we do for responsible news reporting?
