Bicyclists should know rules
When did it become OK for bicyclists to run red lights and stop signs? I ask because on Friday morning, I pulled up to a red light on Mission and Mullan. I had my turn signal on to make a right hand turn. I stopped for the red light and because a pickup was driving north on Mullan. The man on his bike behind me swerved out passing me on the left into the intersection. Thanks to his quick reflexes he was able to lay his bike on the side and barely missed sliding under the pickups rear tire.
The bicyclist quickly stood up, looked at me, picked up one of the two pieces that broke off his bike, and rushed to the other side of the street because a car was coming at him on Mullan. Mind you this was while the light was still red. The bicyclist then rode off, so I assumed he was not hurt.
Every day you can see a bicyclist running a red light, not stopping at a stop sign, or even riding on the wrong side of the road. I bet that at least 90 percent of them are adults. They should know better. Follow the rules and be safe out there.
