‘Pig Out’ is ‘offensive’

Now that the Spokane City Council has courageously changed Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day, how about tackling another city-sanctioned event. I am speaking of “Pig Out in the Park” at Riverfront Park.

I find this event to be a very offensive, not only to pigs, but to the millions of American children, elderly and homeless folks who have very little to eat on a daily basis. Why are you allowing such a gluttonous orgy on city property? You are condoning obesity by permitting this annual food frenzy. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Perhaps you could soothe your political-correctness-gone-amok psyche by renaming Pig Out in the Park to “Weight Challenged Peoples’ Day in the Park.” Or perhaps this title: “Have a Heart Attack in the Park.” No, I don’t suppose you’d like those titles since they wouldn’t bring much money into the city coffers.

However, if you do come up with a better name don’t bother asking the Italian community to partake in your newly named annual smorgasbord. They will still be ticked at you for eliminating their favorite son, Chris Columbus, from his day of recognition.
