League to register voters at libraries

Of the 69,029 Kootenai County ballots cast on Election Day of 2012, 8,114 came from voters who registered on the same trip to the polls. This congested things, according to county elections manager Carrie Phillips. “It took up more poll workers’ time and caused longer lines,” Phillips said. “One precinct registered over 300 people. That’s a lot when you already have a high turnout. It slows down the process a bit.” The League of Women’s Voters, a national nonprofit, nonpartisan civic organization, wants to help make the process a little easier for the upcoming Election Day, Nov. 8. On Sept. 27, National Voter Registration Day, the group will work with the American Association of University Women to help register voters at the Coeur d’Alene, Hayden and Post Falls public libraries throughout the day/ Ryan Collingwood , Coeur d’Alene Press.
