The Slice: Not everyone is on the same channel
It was different, once upon a time.
But things have changed. So let me ask you.
Have you even heard of the TV shows your workplace colleagues like to discuss?
If not, there’s something you can do: Don’t worry about it.
Let’s move on.
Just wondering: Are you able to remember when the location of your current residence was farm country or undeveloped land?
Slice answer: “Regarding what is exasperating about attending Boise State while living in the Panhandle,” wrote Kelly (Akers) Hicks. “When I decided to attend Boise State after graduating from Coeur d’Alene High in the late ’80s, I definitely felt a little ‘looked down on’ as all the cool kids went to the University of Idaho. I think people thought Boise State was second rate. Actually, Boise is a wonderful town to live in – friendly people, beautiful country, lots of good jobs, and the best part is now I get to gloat about Boise State football vs. the Vandals recent dismal football teams. Love that smurf turf!”
Re: Tuesday’s Slice: “For your Jewish readers, putting things off until after the holidays makes a lot of sense right now,” wrote Howard Glass. “Rosh Hashanah begins this Sunday evening and kicks off a series of holidays that conclude on 25 October. While there are some serious aspects, this is all part of the Jewish view that life is to be celebrated. Best wishes for a happy new year on the Jewish calendar.”
Slice answer: Dana Eberly saw the question about who came to your assistance after you collapsed in public.
“In 1980, I stepped onto a descending escalator at SeaTac airport,” she wrote. “I don’t remember fainting, but I awoke looking up into the concerned face of coach Don James, surrounded by the entire UW football team.”
Dana (or perhaps her husband) told me that story once before, in 2004, but I like it enough to use it again.
The Huskies went 9-3 that year, beating WSU 30-23 in the Apple Cup game played here in Spokane.
And as for Dana? “The paramedics arrived instantly. They packed me up and left just as fast when I told them I was pregnant. Low blood pressure.”
Warm-up questions: When the leaves turn, which trees in the Inland Northwest are the most striking? Do you correct people who mispronounce “foliage”?
Today’s Slice question for October Eve: What is your frank opinion of pumpkin-flavored food and beverages?
