Christa: Why I will watch Zags rather than attend board meeting

Dear Zone 1 Constituents:
Our regularly scheduled board meeting is this Monday evening AT THE SAME TIME as the NCAA National championship with Gonzaga. I will not be attending this school board meeting and I would like to explain why. My family has been involved with Gonzaga University for generations. My father in law, Dr. Bud Hazel, was the In-Game announcer during the Stockton years. He retired with Emeritus status out of the communications department and was a favorite … amongst his students . My older brother in law is a professor in GU graduate studies. My younger brother in law was named after Fr. Tony Lehman, the revered priest that has his own bronze chair statue honoring him in the GU Kennel. Many of my in-laws, nieces, nephews, etc, have attended Gonzaga — many attending the GU in Florence program. One is currently in GU Japan.
My husband proposed in the Zag Cinderella year, 1999, in Tucson before the game. In 2002, I made it a personal mission to deliver Cooper before the Wyoming game (I succeeded but we lost but at least I did my part.)
I am an Idaho girl. I graduated CHS, NIC, U of I, and U of I Law school. But I married into Zag Nation. I hope you understand that I must miss this regularly scheduled meeting. It’s not just an athletic event. It’s a family celebration that I simply cannot miss.
Question: Do you blame Christa for making the decision that she did? I don’t.
