Hats off to Mr. Monroe
I am a vet. I am fortunate to be able to use the Mann-Grandstaff Medical Center and have done so for about 15 years. I have received excellent care not only for medical issues but also from the very personable staff. In fact in all respects, while health care in Spokane is generally good the VA hospital, in my opinion, sets the standard for health care in Spokane.
I was a bit shocked to read the April 5 piece by Thomas Clouse. In his third paragraph he reports that a vet who “was distraught” was turned away by the VA urgent care center and asked to call the national Veterans Crisis Line. This is not the VA I know and will guess there is more to the story that may not have been reported. I did read on and in the second to last paragraph read that this vet “had received further counseling from the VA.”
I would not suggest that Thomas Clouse has an agenda but when a person who needs some care and gets it, is there really story? The real story is that Charlie Monroe, presumably another vet, recognized a person in some distress and took the time to show a veteran that he cares. Hats off to you, Mr. Monroe.
As I have said before we are fortunate to have the Mann-Grandstaff Medical Center in our community.
