Change laws, don’t defy

I am upset that the politicians in Washington state believe that they can ignore the laws of the country. Not everyone likes Mr. Trump, but he was elected by the people to be president of the United States. If his administration elects to enforce federal law that marijuana is illegal, work with other states to change the federal law, don’t just ignore the existing law.

When Arizona wanted to enforce a more strict immigration policy, the courts said that the federal government had sole control over immigration laws. Sanctuary cities like Seattle are refusing to enforce federal immigration laws that deal with illegal immigration and admit they are breaking the law because they don’t like the law.

Why should such cities not face consequences for their unlawful actions, such as losing federal funding? For the elected officials to pick and choose which laws to enforce sets a bad example for everyone and promotes a lawless situation. If a law is unfair, then work with other state and local politicians to change the law legally.
