Dig deeper on legislative bills

Thank you, Spokesman-Review, for publishing, “How your U.S. lawmakers voted: Inland Northwest Tally.”

Tens of thousands of us have had a wake-up call since the last election, and we need to know how we are being represented. Last week:

Cathy McMorris Rodgers said yes to repealing the FCC ruling prohibiting internet service from sharing and selling our personal information to advertisers or other special interest groups.

She also voted to kill a bill to create bipartisan commission to investigate ties between Russian intelligence and aides to the president.

In addition, she supported the repeal of an established environmental ruling called “The Honest Act.” A yes vote is an attempt to dumb down the scientific research that protects us all from harmful environmental threats. As an attachment, she helped defeat a motion that the EPA used “the best available science” in responding to ailments such as black-lung disease.

Is there a contradiction here with an administration that supports the coal industry but not the workers?

I hope voters follow this publication and also dig deeper for unbiased explanations of these bills. More than ever, we need to preserve the democracy we have taken for granted.
