Tom missed ASB VP office at Chico State in 1972 by thismuch

An old political poster from Chico (Calif.) State College (now university) shows a student body political ticket, headed by Jane Dolan for president, and Tom Hearn for vice president. Tom, of course, is now retired from three decades of mental health work in Coeur d'Alene -- and a school trustee. (Courtesy of Tom Hearn)

On his Facebook page, Coeur d’Alene school Trustee Tom Hearn comments: “This picture was taken 45 years ago in April 1972. Jane (Dolan) won and I lost by 17 votes, a lot closer than my race with Paul Amador (in run for state Legislature last November) :) . Jane later went on to become a county supervisor (commissioner) for 20 years and I eventually got a haircut and moved to the Northwest in the summer of 1973.”

DFO: For those keeping score at home, I was also on the Chico State College campus in April 1972, completely my final semester for a bachelor’s degree in mass communications. I knew of Dolan. But I can’t remember Tom from way back then. Tom and I have had some laughs re: our Glory Days on campus. My hair might have been a little longer than his.
