Local GOP opposes transit center
The Kootenai County Republican Central Committee passed a resolution last night opposing construction of a transit center for CityLink at Riverstone. Among the whereases:
- Whereas, the proposed Transit Center offers no direct benefit to the majority of Kootenai County residents.
- Whereas, there are significant concerns in the community that the Transit Center will be an “attractive nuisance” for crime and illegal activities.
- Whereas, it is the policy of Kootenai County that the public transportation system is for everyone yet the existing transit system has no service to the unincorporated or rural areas of the county.
- Therefore, be it resolved that the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee strongly encourages the Kootenai County Board of County Commissioners to suspend the planned construction of the proposed Transit Center until a need for the Transit Center is established, the recurring costs are well defined and the cost-to-benefit is justified; and
- Be it further resolved that the Chairmen (sic) of the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee shall present this adopted resolution to the Kootenai County Board of County Commissioners at the next available public meeting.
