Legislature crosses line
Deana Brower, school board member, was dismayed by “automated petition blasts.” She wanted to hear from local constituents about sex education. Well, here I am. I am a retired teacher who taught mainly seventh-grade in public schools. Ever wonder why home-schooling has become popular? It is because the state government is dictating to parents what they must teach their children. I always thought parents were the first educators of their children and that teachers were there to help them.
But the state and “Get Real” are here to instruct parents what they must teach their kids in sex education classes. And Planned Parenthood, author of “Get Real,” is there to “help” the teens when the condom doesn’t work as planned. Planned Parenthood can kill the baby; you can still go to college.
Why not offer two teachable options: One abstinence-based and other Planned Parenthood-based. Then, let the parents decide.
The big issue here is: Why is the state – and therefore the Spokane school board - dictating moral decisions for the parents of this state?” The Legislature has crossed the line.
