Someone’s always paying

I’m sorry that John Alder is concerned about Trumpcare (July 25 letter), especially since we don’t know what it is.

However, some of his statements are incorrect. He states the number of people using the emergency room since ACA implementation has decreased, and that with Trumpcare this figure will double. Politifact cited three studies, none of which shows a reduction in ER usage. Two studies show an increase. We don’t know what Trumpcare will do.”

Regarding medical debt, he is correct that fewer people are now affected by this. However, his conclusion that this helps the economy is faulty. The bills are now being paid by someone else via expanded Medicaid or subsidies.

My father, a man who was never able to get an education due to The Depression, knew something that John, the Democrats and others fail to understand. “There is no free lunch.”

You may not pay for something, but someone else is.
