Get what we pay for
Thanks to Kip Hill for the report in the paper on the pothole court case (“Spokane driver beats city in pothole court case,” Aug. 9). I want to clarify that I did not retire from the Gambling Commission, but worked only five years with them.
What I want readers to know is the city denies claims based on saying the pothole was not reported and will not pay damages unless they knew about it. I used the city maintenance records to show the area was damaged and they knew of it. City records of call-in complaints are not accurate as my call into the 311 call center was never recorded. My cell phone records show my call to the 311 center.
If you get denied on your pothole claim, obtain the maintenance records of the area and use factual exhibits to file a small claims action. One reason for all the potholes is the city fails to maintain our roads to help prevent the continual deterioration of our roads. They don’t have the money or divert it to something else.
Maybe it’s time again to increase tax or bond just for road maintenance. We get what we pay for.
