College of Idaho to become a 100% smoke-free campus this fall

The College of Idaho will become a completely smoke-free campus, starting this fall, the Caldwell liberal arts college announced today. The new policy has been in the works for years, with both the student body and the administration agreeing on various steps along the way aimed at reducing smoking.

As part of that process, smoking cessation classes were offered to students and faculty, in partnership with Idaho’s Project Filter and the Southwest District Health department.

“Overall, I think this is a pretty positive transition,” said Associated Students President Amanda DiDio, “and I think it will be interesting in the next couple of years to see how the culture changes from here.”

Founded in 1891, the College of Idaho is the state’s oldest private liberal arts college; its current enrollment is a bit over 1,000 students.
