Respect U.S. ideals

My late uncles all fought in World War II. They were not “educated” men. They were certainly not wealthy or powerful men. One was Jewish; the others were nominally Christian. They all fought against evil. Did they fight, so Nazis can murder people in Virginia? Did they fight so this newspaper can print “religion” articles advocating hatred, division and ignorance? Did they fight so we can give lame excuses (as did the editor of this paper) when confronted with evil?

Mr. Curley writes, “I didn’t see the column before we published it.” Ignorance is no excuse. Saying we are sorry, after the fact, is no excuse. It is time to stand up together against hate, division and evil. It is time to stand together against Trump, Pence, Sessions, McMorris Rodgers and their ilk. It is time to respect the ideals of our country that my uncles fought for.
