Special ed at charter school
Concerning the Dec. 5 article “Special ed students thrive at Pride Prep”:
It makes the heart soar to read of the academic progress and personal fulfillment of the students at Pride Prep, where small class sizes and special attention combine to help them develop their talents. And it makes the heart weep to think of the thousands of other Spokane public school students with similar special ed needs who read about the Pride students and know that those same benefits are denied to them. How must they and their families feel to read this story?
Some questions: What is the source of the financing required for small class sizes? How are students chosen for the charter schools? How have we gotten to the point that we allow such disparities between public schools that are supposed to provide an equal education to all? Why can’t we find or develop the funding to give all special ed students the conditions of Pride Prep?
