Editorial wrong about probe

I have rarely seen a more biased and inaccurate editorial than the one that appeared in the Spokesman-Review on Jan. 18. I am aware that there has been considerable heated (and often uncivil) discourse about Planned Parenthood. Such debate must reflect facts.

The editorial’s statement that “The House (of Representatives) held hearings and came up empty in its search for illegal activity” is simply inaccurate. On Dec. 21, 2016, the Select Investigation Panel of the Committee on Energy and Commerce sent an email to the U.S. Attorney General, which said, in part, that “the Panel investigators have uncovered documents and received testimony from confidential informants indicating that several entities may have violated federal law.” They then named four Planned Parenthood clinics and a research clinic as those entities.

I would have thought that the Spokesman would have checked the facts before publishing an editorial on such a hotly discussed topic.
