Trib: A lesson Otter learned the hard way
Congressman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, may have received the surprise of his political career last month.
As he had before, Chaffetz introduced an innocuous bill to sell off 3.3 million acres of Bureau of Land Management property scattered throughout the West to pay down the national debt.
In the past, nobody paid much attention - except possibly those members of Chaffetz’s political base who agreed with him. This time, however, as the Lewiston Tribune’s Eric Barker reported Friday, Chaffetz’s bill blew up in his face.
By the time he dropped it, the ranks of opponents included not only conservation groups but ordinary hunters, gun owners, anglers and recreationists - as well as elements of the $646 billion-a-year outdoor recreation industry/ Marty Trillhaase , Lewiston Tribune. More here.
