Huckleberries Past — Feb 24, 1985
Here’s an item from my Kootenai Grapevine/Huckleberries column on Feb. 24, 1985:
Running an ever-changing Scripture billboard isn’t easy during winter months without a Chinook or two.
Highway Evangelism’s Ron Vieselmeyer said Proverbs 1:7 and John 17:3 were up twice as long as normal because the letters were frozen in their tracks.
Usually passages are up for three weeks.
Warmer weather allowed Vieselmeyer to hang love messages (John 3:16 and Romans 5:8) in time for Valentine’s Day.
By the way, messages can’t be longer than 98 or 99 spaces and Vieselmeyer has to watch the number of “thee’s,” “thou’s” and even “the’s” he uses because he’s a bit short on T’s.
The familiar billboard is on the north side of Interstate 90 between Northwest Boulevard and Fourth Street.
