New version of resolution honoring immigrants introduced unanimously, after ‘legal’ added before ‘immigrants’

Rep. Hy Kloc, D-Boise, brought a new version of his resolution honoring immigrants to the House State Affairs Committee, this time adding the word “legal” before “immigrants,” and the panel agreed unanimously, without comment or questions, to introduce his measure. “This … recognizes the contributions that legal immigrants are making and will make,” Kloc told the committee. “It’s these people … who have gone through the process to become U.S. citizens that this resolution is designed to recognize. I felt that these people are being left out of the discussion … currently.”

After the unanimous vote, Kloc said, “I think the pushback was expected, and the fact that there were no questions or pushback today was because I was able to work with the majority party in coming up with the resolution.”

There was just one other change in the resolution: The word “intensive” was changed to “comprehensive” in its description of the vetting process legal immigrants undergo.
