Senate Ed meeting on science standards moved to Capitol’s largest hearing room

This afternoon’s Senate Education Committee meeting has been moved to the Lincoln Auditorium, the Capitol’s largest meeting room, due to the big crowd. “There would not have been enough chairs” without the move, noted Chairman Dean Mortimer, R-Idaho Falls.

The committee is hearing the temporary rule that includes revised science standards for Idaho schools. Earlier, the House Education Committee approved the rule but deleted five sections referring to climate change.

Mortimer said the hearing this afternoon will run until 5 p.m., and testimony will be limited to 3 minutes per person. He said he already has five pages of signups from people wanting to testify. “I’m not sure we’re going to get through five pages, but we will do our best,” he said.
