CMR votes hurt district
“Near nature, near perfect.” This slogan does not apply to all of us. There are 696,426 people in the 5th Congressional District, according to census figures. There are 111,972 people over 65 years who depend on Medicare and Social Security. Cathy McMorris Rodgers has voted for cuts in Medicare and Social Security. She voted for cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), when there are 46,842 households in our district dependent on this program.
There are 107,276 people with disabilities in the district and she favors cuts to Social Security Disability programs. There are 61,552 veterans in the district. She voted against the Caregiver and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Bill and opposed the Veterans Retraining Act. She voted to cut 1.4 billion from the 2016 Veterans Affairs funding bill.
There are 298,372 people with public-funded health insurance (Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans, Washington Children’s Health etc.). She is for cutting all federally funded health insurance. She says she is fighting for us, but clearly not all of us. In reality, she is promoting her status with the Republican leadership in Washington D.C.
