Dems demand loyalty

In a Dec. 27 speech, President Obama decried tribalism, implying that the usually Democratic white working class with whom Trump won the presidency displayed inappropriate group loyalty. Yet, it was the president’s party that campaigned on the need for the first black president and implied resistance to Obama was racism.

If the candidates in those elections were Ben Carson or Herman Cain and a white Democrat, one suspects nothing would have been said about the need for a first black president. It was the president’s party that campaigned this year on the need for the first female president and implied resistance to Clinton was sexist.

One suspects that if this year’s candidates were Carly Fiorina and a male Democrat, nothing would have been said about the need for the first female president.

So it is the Democratic Party that demands votes on tribal loyalty instead of principles, policies or character.
