A round of cookies on the house
So two neighborhood urchins showed up at the door to Casa Oliveria Monday, asking if they could plow our driveway for money. They were about 7 and 5 years old. A brother and a sister. Their snow shovel was bigger than they were. The chances that they could handle the snow load on the driveway were slim and none. Mrs O declined their offer. But she said she’d just baked cookies. She offered each a fresh-baked cookies.. Then, Mrs. O offered to give the children a cookie for each member of their family. Their nuclear family has 4 people — Dad, Mom and the two kids. The little girl, eyes fixed on the giant chocolate kiss in the center of the cookie that she’d received, responded: “We have 29 in our family.” I’m glad Mrs O didn’t fall for that fib. Or I would have been without a cookie when I got home later that night.
