ACA repeal senseless
What could be a better example of common sense than the idea that you don’t take something apart unless you know how to put it back together? So why are the Republicans, most of whom frequently claim an allegiance to common sense, attempting to dismantle the Affordable Care Act without any understanding as to how its interdependent pieces fit together or any plan to replace it? It appears that common sense, the existence of which has been debated by philosophers since Aristotle, paradoxically does not apply in situations supported by the majority.
For example, when in the minority, common sense dictates a different solution regardless of the problem, but when in the majority, common sense need not be referenced. To take this theory a step further, if common sense is proportional to one’s power, then facts easily become irrelevant.
Donald Trump was elected president by people believing that a selfish billionaire with a fortune made by taking advantage of others could somehow be trusted to follow through on extremely vague claims to improve the average person’s social standing. This, of course, also contradicts common sense, as we have now truly witnessed its death, if it ever existed.
