‘Bigotry’ casually assigned
Regarding Kevin Decker’s Jan. 9 letter: I was surprised to find someone of presumed sanity ready to cast judgment on all of us “deplorables.” He also finds fault with someone who has never served in public office becoming U.S. president. He needs to be reminded that the president during the past eight years also had only a smidgen of public office experience prior to becoming president.
There are some important bottom lines that I hope we all share. We are all Americans; we do not agree on everything but hatred and bigotry are not automatically assigned to those that disagree with us; and we will not permit hatred filled people to divide us.
In summary, it is painful to imagine that there are very many other people that share Decker’s hate-fueled conclusions. His views are the very real ingredients that fuel fascism and other extreme political movements. Perhaps he should look for another country that more fully permits his views to flourish.
