Rare bird and White House
Like many others, I have held back writing yet another hysterical post-election letter to the editor, and it is my hope to avoid doing so now. Instead I would like to comment on the rare bird sighting in Lewiston, Idaho, of a Siberian red-flanked blue tail that commonly winters in Asia, as mentioned in the Outdoor section, “Why the bird is in north-central Idaho is anybody’s guess.” I contend it traveled here first class inside a shipping container from some Asian port of call.
Now that we also have a rare bird in the White House and no one seems to have any idea how he got there, we will have President-elect Trump to blame going forward for any lack of new sightings of this rare red-flanked blue tail. If our trade imbalance with the Chinese is settled or at least improved, we can expect fewer containers from Asia and an end of what can only be an illegal immigration of sorts by these feathered foreigners. If not, we know who to blame.
