Christie: Sen Souza wasn’t rude

Christie Wood (RE: NIC prez makes first budget pitch ): “Just got home from Boise and really feel the need to comment on this. I was in the room. Senator Souza asked the question to understand the difference in the taxing entities. At no time was she rude. It was a great opportunity to talk about the elephant in the room. NIC provides services to the 5 northern counties but only has one county in our taxing districts so our levy is higher. Senator Souza has been very supportive so I can’t contribute to a false narrative. If we need to hold our elected officials (like myself) feet to the fire then by all means we should. But it is important we get the story straight and not portray something that did not happen.”

DFO: Huckleberries misread between the lines yesterday in commenting on the first budget pitch made by new NIC prez Richard MacLennan. Reacting to an Eye on Boise report that Souza had asked question, Huckleberries said she “pounced.” Christie Wood, who was there, said she didn’t. That Souza was complementary and welcoming. Huckleberries admits an error. If Souza is working with Coeur d’Alene constituents, Huckleberries is happy to say that’s a very good thing.
