Grizzly drills needed
Betsy DeVos, Trump’s pick for the Department of Education, warned America of the chilling threat of grizzly bears attacking schools and students during Senate confirmation hearings. I am simply stunned my child is not engaged in “Active Grizzly Drills” at school in case a grizzly gets in.
I am recommending the schools consider adapting the current “Run/Hide/Fight” model for active shooters to run (and throw packets of honey saved from lunch at the bear), hide and wait for the janitor to get a shotgun and end the bear threat. I’m pretty certain that if janitors are given shotguns to repel grizzly bear invasions, our kids should be OK.
Winter is probably the best time to drill students as bears are hibernating. Spring and fall are, of course, the highest risk times for a bear attack so we must be vigilant. We can no longer hide in our safe caves and ignore this ursine threat to our kiddos.
The Second Amendment allows us to bear arms, it does not allow bears to be armed. Spokane Valley cannot become a sanctuary city for grizzlies who want to invade our schools.
