CMR protesters wrong
I was both proud and disappointed during the MLK rally. I was proud my community came together to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., a visionary and civil rights leader. I was proud to see people from all walks of life and races stand together. I was proud to see my representative in Congress stand up for unity in her remarks. Cathy did a great job. She encouraged us to respect one another no matter what, and acted with grace and dignity when some people in the audience started heckling her.
They weren’t even protesting anything she said. It was just disruptive for the sake of being disruptive. It had nothing to do with MLK’s vision.
I applaud the director of the event, who scolded the few loud disruptors, reminding them that they were setting a poor example for the children present.
Cathy did the right thing to accept an invitation to appear at the rally and to honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s memory with a message of unity and racial equality. Spokane has fought hard to be a community that welcomes everyone regardless of their background or beliefs. The protesters were wrong and disappointing.
