Taxed to death

In response to the county tax hike proposal: Opposed! Property owner here. Really? Granted I must drive on roads to enter and exit my property, but doesn’t any of the 49.40 cents per gallon state gas tax, plus the 18.4 cents per gallon federal gas tax deal with roads? Quick internet search says those taxes support constructing and maintaining state, city and county roads, bridges and ferries. Installing, maintaining and operating traffic and signal lights. Policing state public highways.

Well, commissioners, I take my life in my hands every day trying to enter Trent Avenue from Starr Road. In my 60-plus years in the Newman Lake area, many people have died at that location. Where are our traffic signals and lights? Now you want my property taxes raised for more of the same? Please, I am not political. I don’t know (or care) much about politics, but I am being taxed to death and please use the gas taxes I pay for my privilege to use the roadways. At least that way, based on my driving habits, I would be paying my share based on my road use. Maybe that makes too much sense.
