Electricity a basic need

Water and electricity are basic needs. Companies that provide those needs should not make profits but focus on providing quality services at the lowest cost to the consumers, not the interests of shareholders. I could group health care along with these basic needs that should be void of shareholder profits. Now we’re giving control over these basic needs to foreign interests? What happened to government “by the people, for the people?”
