BACKCOUNTRY — Backcountry splitboarder Benjamin Read launched his drone on May 21 to give us a bird’s eye view of the snowpack remaining in the east basin of Chimney Rock, an iconic pillar of granite in Idaho’s Selkirk Mountains.

In the latest access report, backcountry skier and snowshowers are able to drive up Pack River Road offer US 95 north of Sandpoint to the east side Chimney Rock trailhead, which is currently at snowline.

That means adventurers must leave vehicles there and slog over snow for several more miles up Pack River Road to Beehive and Harrison Peak trailheads.
