I’m doing it again. I’ve encountered another local history book that I find fascinating — The Coeur d’Alenes Gold Rush and Its Lasting Legacy by Tony & Suzanne Bamonte of Tornado Creek Publications. The book (500 pages and 522 photos) details the gold rush in 1883-84 in the north side of the Coeur d’Alenes (in the Murray Prichard area), which launched the more famous mining of silver and other precious metals in the south side. I’ve already learned that old-timers don’t like the chamber of commerce name for the region: Silver Valley. The Bamontes explain that they view the metal wealth of the Coeur d’Alene Mining District as being more than silver. I’ll tell you more as I learn more from the book. Here’s your Weekend Wild Card …
