Food wasted needlessly

I think part of the problem regarding food waste is it’s fear based. We’re a country of obsessed germaphobes! Case in point, I saw a co-worker toss out an entire brick of cheese because it had one tiny spot of mold. Those of us who are informed know this type of mold is not dangerous even if it’s consumed.

And forget expiration dates. When will people wake up? These are usually “sell by” dates meant to be guidelines for the retailer. I opened a can of tomato paste that had a “best by” date of 2015 and it was perfect. Even cosmetics and medications are not “dangerous”; they simply lose potency. Personally I think it’s a conspiracy by the food, drug and cosmetic industry so they can increase their profits.
