Let’s hear it for … chard?
Almost yearly, some odd starter plant calls to me from the racks of the garden sections of Home Depot, Fred Meyer, Lowe’s, North 40 or wherever. Two years ago, it was tomatillos. This year, it’s chard. I was minding my own business when I spotted six-packs of starter packs for $2.69 at Shopko: Bell peppers, Eggplants. Lettuce. Brussel Sprouts. Chard. I chose chard. I don’t plan to eat it. I just want to watch it grow. Mrs. O saw my smile when I carried the plants in the door. Then, she said “chard” in the same way that I say “liver.” I suspect that I haven’t heard the last word about chard from her this summer. I hope it’s a pretty plant.
Question: What oddball thing do you grow in your garden?
