Thanks for Daybreak coverage

Thanks to the S-R and to Eli Frankovich for an in-depth, thoughtful portrayal of Daybreak Youth Services inpatient chemical dependency treatment program for young women (May 28). You noted how very complicated and inadequate the funding for such programs are and the frustrations they lead to when the funded days are exceeded, but the healing is not yet completed.

I had the pleasure of touring this Daybreak facility as well as attending a fund-raising event this past month. I am convinced that this program is one of our community’s jewels in the nonprofit sector. Given the insufficient public funding for reimbursement, it is also incumbent upon all of us to chip in to support this vital mission and expand our efforts for earlier prevention and intervention.

As you can imagine, their “wish lists” (see Daybreak website) includes all of the items young women need or want for their health. Each person is limited to 30 personal items so they also learn to set priorities.

Daybreak also administers services for young men needing chemical dependency treatment in Western Washington. This is an organization meeting critical needs. We can all invest our time, talent and treasure to support them in addressing this important purpose.
