Out, out, damn comfrey

Ron Rankin, the late tax activist and Kootenai County commissioner, and I had a stormy relationship. Most of the time, we were on good terms and I enjoyed watching him work the media and his political enemies. However, there were times when he got under my skin and I got under his, especially during the first year of his two terms as a county commissioner. Why am I telling you this. I once received a bag of comfrey from Ron’s large garden at his Kidd Island Bay home. I knew it had medicinal use. But I had no idea how pervasive it is. It’s worse than bamboo. I’ve fought to get rid of the comfrey launched so long ago from Rankin’s garden. It’s now in three spots in my garden. I call it “Rankin’s revenge,” for those times when we didn’t get along. But I plan to soldier on in my fight to eradicate the stuff. I can’t let Rankin have the last laugh.

Question: Have you had a tough time eradicating something from your garden?
