Wishful thinking on “Meals”

It’s good to learn that Marilyn E. Calkins (May 25 letter “Localize Meals on Wheels”) is giving or planning to give $10 each month so that people have nutritious food. But I think she’s somewhat naive in thinking that 200,000 Spokane County households will be both willing and able to follow her example and contribute an additional ten dollars a month to help with meals.

She recognizes that many families are already “working extra jobs just to keep shelter and food in their family homes.” Yet she apparently wants them to volunteer money to help make up for the proposed cuts to Meals on Wheels.

Many volunteers faithfully deliver Meals on Wheels. Clearly they think this is an important program.
