Don’t dismantle programs
Concerning the May 24 article, “Trump proposes to sell off Bonneville Power assets” and the May 27 article, “Trump’s budget cuts West Coast quake warning system funding.”
The Bonneville Power Administration, BPA, is the multi-state and international distribution of electricity produced by the multiple dams on the Columbia River, the Spokane River, the Snake River and several other river systems. This electricity is distributed to British Columbia, Canada, Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana and other states.
This electricity has greatly contributed to the high standard of living that we have today. Central heating, air conditioning, lighting, clothes and dish washing machines, clothes drying machines, 75-inch TV’s, and computer and satellite systems for our homes.
The West Coast quake warning system gives us several hours advance notice of tidal waves caused by earthquakes, which could save the lives of tens of thousands of people.
To allow the dismantling of these programs would be devastating to our region.
