Vets not promised gym
I left regular Army service in 1977 and went through out processing like everyone does. During this process we’re informed of the benefits earned and other resources available. At no time was I guaranteed a free gym membership at any VA facility. These vets still protesting at the Spokane VA Medical Center were using the equipment in the Physical Therapy Unit (PT) as their personal gym. With the vets returning from the current overseas involvements and the aging Korea/Vietnam Era vets, the PT equipment is in more need than ever.
Instead of realizing their luck at having been able to use the equipment without a valid medical need over the time they did, these people have the audacity to protest and post a sign stating the VA is giving them a second chance to die for their country. They park on the sidewalk blocking the view of anyone leaving the VA onto Assembly as they set up their encampment. Why do these people think they can do as they please, and downgrade a facility that more than takes care of those who’ve served their country?
No vet was ever promised a free rein in life or a free gym membership.
