Beggs’ expertise needed

On July 14, ballots begin to be mailed for the Aug. 1 primary election. Your vote and this election matter!

Those of us in District 2, city of Spokane, have an opportunity to support an honest, ethical and hard-working public servant to the City Council, Breean Beggs. He has distinguished himself in many areas, but of special interest is his commitment to creating a smarter criminal justice system based on what actually works to reduce the likelihood that someone will commit another crime. Remarkably, what actually works is less expensive for taxpayers than the current system.

Breean represents the City Council on the Spokane Regional Law and Justice Council. His expertise is needed to help this council redesign our system to achieve better outcomes for everyone involved, including victims, those with mental illness or substance use disorders, people of color and veterans. Public safety consumes about 50 percent of the city’s budget. Don’t you want someone with expertise helping to spend those dollars on what actually works?

Breean’s vision for a healthy community includes a cost effective, equitable, smart criminal justice system. Let’s help him create that vision by returning him to the City Council.
