Con-con bill shows we don’t trust us
The latest sign of the end times took place last week, during the Senate State Affairs Committee hearing on the Article V convention resolution.
The bill petitions Congress to call a convention of the states for the purpose of proposing a balanced-budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
About 200 people attended the Friday morning hearing. Other than Sen. Marv Hagedorn, the resolution sponsor, and his team of presenters, everyone who testified spoke in opposition to the legislation. The committee then approved it on a 5-4 vote, sending it to the full Senate for lengthy floor debate. The resolution itself wasn’t a harbinger of the apocalypse, nor was the vote to move it forward. Rather, it was testimony from the audience that was so disturbing.
Though eloquent and heart-felt, the comments could be summed up in one sentence: We Americans no longer trust ourselves to do what’s best/ William L. Spence , Lewiston Tribune. More here.
