Help first responders
We’ve all seen the situation. You’re stopped at a red light and either behind you, in front, or to the sides of you are fire, police or ambulance vehicles with their emergency lights/sirens on, stuck in traffic. In this day and age, this should be a bad memory.
We have all these traffic cameras around the city and, I assume, an employee who monitors them. In addition to the first responders, the camera monitor(s) should get a priority message (a flashing red light in the monitor control room) telling them which vehicles are responding and from where and their destination.
For example, an ambulance leaves Sharp and Monroe going south, destination the Review Building. All north-south traffic lights, at the appropriate moment, are turned green to keep traffic moving, so they can pull over and make a hole for the ambulance.
Hey Mayor Condon, want a feather in your cap? Make this happen.
