Stuckart’s reckless rumor

Lying and using scare tactics to support your political agenda is unacceptable. I am ashamed of City Council President Ben Stuckart for misleading a large crowd at Gonzaga. At an educational institution that cherishes truth, he used the worst rumor-mongering to scare the crowd that Immigrations and Customs Enforcement was checking IDs at the bus station. The next day, he texted “In retrospect, I should have verified before I spoke.”

No kidding. And that isn’t even an apology.

At least one council member had the integrity to check at the station before blasting out a rumor. Career politicians like Stuckart should know that once you put out false information, it’s near impossible to take it back. This is not the first time Stuckart has been caught lying to promote his agenda. His Facebook posts about the ripping off of hijabs were also false; again followed by a patched up excuse.

It’s especially bad because Spokane is a wonderful tolerant city that welcomes people of all faiths. There is no reason to spread fear. It’s time for Ben Stuckart to take some responsibility for his reckless actions.
