Shoveling lawns?

Cindy Hval and I each witnessed an interesting sight Wednesday. She saw a female neighbor shoveling snow off her lawn. And, on the way to work, I saw a man along Seventh Street shoveling snow off his lawn. Don’t they know that the snow will melt if they leave it alone, asked Cindy. Can anyone explain this phenomenon?
