Penney’s to shut 138 stores, none here

The Spokane region and North Idaho will be spared closure of any J.C. Penney stores in the next few months, according to the company.

The struggling retailer on Friday released a list of 138 locations that will close in the coming months as part of its plan to cut costs. Most are located within malls or shopping centers. Liquidation sales will start at the closing stores on April 17, and most stores will be shut by mid-June, the company said.

In the Northwest, J.C. Penney stores will close in Burley, Idaho, and in Snohomish, Washington, as well as five cities in Oregon: The Dalles, Pendleton, La Grande, Astoria and Grants Pass/ Associated Press . More here.
