Remains of missing woman likely found

PLUMMER — The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and the Benewah County Sheriff’s Office may have located the remains of Jacquelyn D. Grider, who has been missing since June 1, 2015.

On Sunday, Kootenai County deputies responded to the 1700 block of W. Conkling Park Road/Worley re: possible human remains having been discovered by a male walking his dog. Investigators from Kootenai County and Benewah County both responded to the scene. Based on several items located with the remains, investigators believe there is a strong likelihood that the remains discovered are those of Jacquelyn D. Grider. The location of the remains were about two miles away from where Grinder was last seen in 2015. The remains have been sent to forensic experts for positive identification.

Jacquelyn, who was in the early stages of dementia, was from California, but spent her summers near Heyburn State park with her husband. A search for her was suspended after a week. No clues were found at the time.
